Canada's Blue Jays Secure World Series Meeting With defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer was instrumental for the Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their maiden World Series after the 1993 season by beating the Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Trailing by two runs, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh frame, guiding the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 victory in the series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the upcoming World Series.

"I'm just so happy for everyone here, our city, the nation," Springer stated, a key player of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "This is such an unbelievable moment."

Springer has now slugged 23 total post-season home runs, making him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another person anywhere that I'd prefer in that spot besides him with his October magic," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the sole team that has never reached in a World Series.

Wilson stated "certainly that it hurts" in the wake of his team's loss at their home ballpark, but praised their efforts throughout the year.

"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we ended up on the wrong side of this one," he added.

Toronto's team claimed the title on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
