Democrats Denounce Trump After He Suggests They Should Face Execution

Democratic officials voiced fury after the ex-president alleged a coalition of Democratic representatives of being "turncoats" and declared they should be detained and punished "with execution" following their release of a disputed video.

The Recording That Triggered the Debate

The clip, published on earlier this week, showcases six Democratic congress members who previously worked in defense or defense capacities.

"Like us, you all swore an oath to safeguard and uphold this founding document," the officials stated in the 90-second video. "And right now, the risks to our governing document don't only come from overseas, but from within our own country. Our statutes are clear, you can reject improper directives, you can refuse unlawful commands, you should refuse illegal orders. No one has to execute orders that violate the statutes or our national charter."

Donald Trump's Incensed Reaction

The clip appeared to provoke a angry reaction from the former president.

On the following morning, Trump posted on Truth Social: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate message, he declared: "This constitutes really bad, and Risky to our Nation. Their statements cannot be allowed to persist. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent message, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also shared a statement that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Officials React

Following Trump's comments on that day, Democratic leadership issued a combined declaration censuring the remarks.

"Political violence has no position in the United States," they stated. "Elected officials who participated in the video all acted our nation with exceptional loyalty and honor. We unequivocally censure Donald Trump's offensive and risky death threats against congressional representatives, and appeal to GOP representatives to strongly do the same."

The party representatives also mentioned that they had been in contact with security officials "to make certain the safety of these representatives and their families."

"Donald Trump must right away delete these extreme online messages and recant his dangerous language before he gets someone killed," the statement added.

Lawmakers' Defiant Answer

The representatives who appeared in the video also released a response.

"We are veterans and national security professionals who love this nation and took an oath to safeguard and defend the national charter of the United States," they declared. "This commitment is permanent, and we intend to keep it. No intimidation, pressure, or call for violence will deter us from that important duty."

"The most revealing aspect is that the president deems it liable to punishment by execution for us to reiterate the statutes," they stated. "Armed forces members should recognize that we have their protection as they carry out their vow to the constitution and obligation to adhere to only legal commands. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They stated: "Every American must join forces and censure the ex-president's calls for our murder and political violence. This is a moment for moral clarity."

More Partisan Reactions

The Opposition leader also denounced Trump's comments and published on digital platforms: "Let's be crystal clear: the President of the United States is requesting the death of elected officials."

He stated: "This constitutes an outright THREAT. All senators, every Representative, all citizens – without partisan consideration – should denounce this without delay and without qualification."

The Conservative official justified Trump's allegation that the Democrats had participated in "rebellion", characterizing the video as "wildly inappropriate", adding: "It is very harmful, you have leading members of Congress telling troops to defy commands, I think that is unprecedented in US history."

The Conservative representative also according to sources informed journalists that in what he examined of Trump's posts, Trump was "describing the violation of treason" but that "lawyers have to examine the language and determine all that."

White House Reaction

During a administration briefing on Thursday afternoon, when questioned by a reporter, "Is the president want to execute members of Congress?", the administration spokesperson answered: "Absolutely not."

"We should understand about what the ex-commander in chief is responding to," the official declared. "You have sitting members of the American legislature who coordinated to orchestrate a digital communication to individuals of the national defense, to active duty service members encouraging them to ignore the commander in chief's proper directives."

She said: "The integrity of our defense system rests on the hierarchy, and if that chain of command is compromised, it can result in fatalities, it can lead to disorder, and precisely what these congressional representatives ... are basically promoting."
