Line of Duty Announced for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part series written by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, according to the production team.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."
The last season wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that attracted over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only arrived this week.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to combat misconduct within the police force.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
Yet, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, plot details hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many followers track the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is back! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the unit return, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."
"Pleased with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
Show History
The drama launched in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Stephen Graham.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the new season will hit screens.
The conclusion of series six drew the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
However, the corporation announced on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
