Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his position after another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the club's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got plenty of backing from above,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “Through standard conversations we have I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager expressed regret over familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a phase like this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we will always compete.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
