The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few notable adjustments:
- Each team includes just 8 real players, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions done by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Just a pair of locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
In short, this mode delivers on its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for players seeking alternative ways to enjoy the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.
Community Responses: Anger to Praise
"People want real players. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while someone else details all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?
If the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
