This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Each year, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
